| | | Blood Gnome | | | | This is the first new "nasty little buggers on the loose" movie since, probably the last Critters film in the 90's, that I've seen sneak it's way onto Blockbuster's shelves. So what does this film have that previous little hellion-based films don't have? Gratuitous nudity and tons of S & M, that's what.
This movie is apparently about a woman who had a bunch of tiny little monsters living with her that are called "Blood Gnomes." The woman is into sado-masochism, and lo and behold, so are the little monsters because they really get off on eating those types of people. You know, people that like bondage and that sort of crap. Well, of course, these little monsters are leaving a lot of dead kinky people in their wake and the police simply must investigate the deaths. Well, plucky crime scene photographer with a problematic past (of course) begins to see the little monsters at the crime scenes. Oh and he gets involved with a chick that operates a BDSM store—so it has a tender side, too. Just for you softies out there. Hey, it sounds pretty stupid, but is at least more tolerable than some of the crap coming out Hollywood these days that's being called "horror." |

| | | Cello | | | | Starring the beautiful Miss Sung (from last year’s Scarlet Letter), this is the story of a family seemingly tormented by the murderous sound of a cello. Could it be that the instrument itself is possessed and causing people to die in ultra bloody fashion? or is there a bloodthirsty psycho involved?
Cello is one of four Korean horror films to play the theaters during the Summer of 2005. Like the others (Scary Hair, Voice and Red Shoes), this one relies on nubile teen girls and their unconventional “objects” for the thrills. Regardless of the obvious inherent problems caused by a cello that’s bigger than the girl, the overall results here are more definitely chilling – and more bloody.Hyeon-a Seong |

| | | Junk | | | | This movie is more of a pure zombie movie than the movie "Versus", but I still liked "Versus" better. In the end that one was not purely a zombie movie, but more of a fight movie while this one had more zombie gut munching. This movie has jewel thieves going to an old military building to sell their stash of stolen goods. What do they find there? Zombies, from an experiment gone bad. Soon the mob shows up and they pull a fast one on the jewel thieves and oops, they accidentally make more zombies rise from the dead. Well after awhile the military shows up to activate a bomb to blow the building up, but there is apparently a zombie that has a bit more intelligence than the rest and she is not willing to let herself get killed. Some good blood and mayhem ensues, but not quite as good as the back of the box promised. Still, I enjoyed this movie, though it is not without its flaws. Not enough victims to be killed and the Americans present in the film. Not that I had a problem with them, but when they were in scenes with this one Japanese guy, he talked in English too, and you couldn't understand him easily when he did. I prefer they just use all Japanese actors and have subtitles. Other than that and a few other minor details this was a cool Japanese zombie movie and where else are you going to see a zombie that actually looks really good (and by good I don't mean gory, but attractive)?

| | | Ordeal | | | | Laurent Lucas plays lounge singer Marc Stevens, a handsome and affable chap who has his van break down between Christmastime gigs. Late at night, in the pouring rain, Marc unwisely heeds the advice of Belgian lunatic Boris and treks off into the night. He's looking for a well-off-the-beaten-path little hotel... and boy does he find it.
Nestled firmly in the middle of Inbred County, Belgium, is the Hotel Bartel. The owner is a lonely little freak, but Marc thinks nothing of the dank desolation before settling in for an overnight stay. Mr. Bartel promises to have Marc's van up and running in short order, but we all know that's not very likely. Marc spends his afternoon wandering the countryside, and he soon comes across a barn in which several gibbering goons are having sex with livestock. He heads back to the hotel.
Before too long, Marc realizes that Mr. Bartel (and the perpetually
popping-up Boris) are more than a little off their respective rockers, and he decides to hit the road, period. Big mistake, Marc. Seems that the whacked-out hotel-master has grown, shall we say 'attached', to his current visitor. Thus begins a descent into nastiness that involves handcuffs, bear traps, shorn scalps and rape. |
